Hello Dolly

It’s a “walk & talk” down a long corridor in the pediatric ward of a hospital. Detectives Bernard & Lupo are questioning the father of an injured child about the death of his wife.

As the camera dollies backward, “leading” the actors, the light must move with the camera to remain consistently balanced, and the camera rises (“booms up”) at a certain point, and the microphone needs to stay in step, and the wires to the various devices must be taken up so as not to be caught under the wheels. And let’s not forget the background actors who must move hither and yon, doing their thing, but in pantomime, in what is really an empty, unused hospital floor, and not pediatric, we made the murals too…
And what you get is this dance without music. A dozen people moving synchronously down a long hall.
And then you do it again until you get it right.
