Motions Court

Cutter spars with an unscrupulous lawyer with an inscrutable name.

The Character “Wohl” appeared in two separate shows in season 20. Each time he is a challenging adversary for Cutter & Rubirosa, representing deeply unsavory clients. He is shrewd, dishonest, and is probably a narcissistic socio-path (if that’s not reading too much into it). He is the closest thing to a nemesis Cutter has ever faced in court.

And the name is Wohl. That’s Wohl, not Wall, or Wull, not Woal, or Wool, but Wohl. It’s pronounced Wohl. I like to think of a cowboy commanding his horse, saying, “Whoa!”, but with a soft “L” sound at the end, but that’s just me. Others had a different approach and throughout the week I saw cast & crew alike stopping and thinking and speaking the name softly to their selves, trying to get it right. And it mattered because the name is mentioned many times in the script, spoken by a range of characters, in scenes spread out over many shoot days. It needed to be consistent throughout.

This is also a nice clip to observe screen actors working their craft, helping each other get it right, re-setting themselves and re-focusing their concentration.
