The Four Walk
In the words of Fred Berner, its all about loving Manuel.
In the title sequence of the show, and in promotional spots, there has been for years a shot of the cast striding resolutely towards the camera. Sometimes it is “the four walk” and sometimes it is all six central characters. From time to time an updated walk shot has been needed because of changes in the cast, and sometimes they have wanted a fresh one for some reason that I just don’t know.
The shooting of this one was shoehorned into the middle of an already very busy day, so it had to be knocked out quickly and efficiently. If we couldn’t nail it fast we would pay for it dearly at the end of the day, and if too much time was lost we could even fail to complete the days scheduled work before the cut-off time, which was simply not acceptable.
In case you don’t recognize him, Manuel is the cameraman, so one could say that directing the actors to play to the lens, which is the audience, is like “loving” Manuel. That’s showbiz for you!
