The Last Scene
It’s the last page of the script, but that’s not to say it was our last day, that came a couple of days later (no one shoots in script page order except as an artistic conceit, it is ordered for efficiency of logistics and cast scheduling).
It was a rather special scene, a nice scene, because all six principles played –pretty rare- and because it was a party, a joyous and forward-looking celebration at the end of the year. We knew this scene was the season fade-out, the last thing the audience would see this year, and it felt like we were coming back. Just as Van Buren’s test results and engagement announcement showed that she was certainly not dead yet!
Well, obviously it is a wee bit poignant to see now, with hindsight. But at the time there were no such thoughts, there was just a scene to shoot.
