Head in  the Clouds

In the early 2000’s I found myself looking up a lot. Traditionally that’s an unusual thing to do in New York City since generally ones full attention is needed at street level. Outlanders might think I’m referring to crime, but really it is the reckless delivery van careening blindly around a corner that might sucker-punch you to death right in the crosswalk. The requisite situational awareness is just common sense to the citizens of New York, yet they never look up because the sky has this way of staying up there where it belongs, no problem. Then one day it suddenly fell, and from then on I found myself keeping an eye on it. Just in case.
